Vision
Established and Proven
Sharing and Caring Hands was founded in 1985 by Mary Jo Copeland as a safety-net organization to help those who could not obtain help from the welfare system. We exist as a vehicle for volunteers to commit their time and resources to make a difference in the lives of the people of the community.
The Need
In these increasingly tough times of government cutbacks, the private sector must provide for the individuals falling through the cracks in the government welfare system.
The Care
Sharing and Caring Hands provides a host of services that include food, clothing, shelter, transportation assistance, medical and dental help and much more to the over 20,000 people who come through our facility each month. Over $400,000 is spent each month on the needs of the poor.
The Means
Sharing and Caring Hands is run by volunteers with few paid staff. The center relies solely on donations of time, goods, services and money from the community it serves. Remarkably, it does not accept Federal or State financial assistance and is not affiliated with United Way, but relies entirely on donations.
