Serving A Meal
Currently, all of our Serving A Meal volunteer opportunities are filled. If/when openings arise, we will update here.
The parents living at Mary's Place are in need of job search support. They need help with creating a resume, cover letter, job search on the computer, and interviewing skills. Many do not have the computer or writing skills to do these things on their own. They need one-on-one assistance. We are in need of volunteers that can help them create a resume, log onto job search websites, and apply directly to open positions. This volunteer opportunity can be flexible regarding time commitment. New volunteers are provided a brief orientation training on how to use a job search website.

Volunteer Testimony : "I have been volunteering as a job coach since 2012. It is by far one of my most rewarding experiences. If you have the desire and passion to help others improve their lives, the ability to encourage and guide others towards viable employment, then you should volunteer as a job coach, too. I encourage you to share your time and talent. You will positively impact someone's life including your own." (Patricia A.)
Education is often not a priority when a family is homeless and in transition. The children living at Mary's Place are experiencing significant educational deficits and learning gaps. Many of them are several grade levels behind where they should be academically performing. They desperately need encouragement and support. Mary’s Place puts a special emphasis on offering individualized tutoring where we pair compassionate volunteers from the community with these at-risk, disadvantaged children. We are in need of volunteers willing to spend just 2 hours of their time each week with these children. Volunteers do not need to have previous teaching/tutoring experience but must be age 16+ and able to attend on a weekly basis (volunteers pick one day per week to commit to). New volunteers will be provided an orientation training on their first day.

Volunteer Testimony : "Over the past few years, I have lived in three different cities and volunteered at a number of urban, after-school tutoring programs. The program at Sharing and Caring Hands is by far the most well-run of any I have experienced. It is efficient and organized, the kids are well-behaved and a delight to work with, and noticeable student progress is made throughout the year. I cannot recommend this volunteer experience enough!" (Hannah S.)
For over 30 years, volunteer dentists and oral surgeons have provided free dental services to those in our community who face insurmountable barriers to care. The individuals who come to our clinic for dental treatment typically are in pain and have little or no income, no insurance, and no ability to pay for dental care. You can perform extractions and/or restorative procedures and you can work as little or as much as you want.

The Mary’s Place Minute Clinic helps the families in our homeless shelter access basic medical services. Volunteer Doctors and Nurses provide treatment for acute illnesses and minor injuries, administer influenza vaccinations, and coordinate care for complex or chronic conditions. Having an on-site, walk-in medical clinic reduces ER visits and provides convenience and comfort for our homeless families who are in crisis and facing so many challenges. We are looking for providers to staff current hours.
