Teen Center Staff - Full Time

 

General Job Description:

Sharing and Caring Hands includes Mary’s Place which is a homeless shelter for 100 homeless families. Mary’s Place offers a variety of resources and services to the families that live there. One of the activities and programs that is offered is the Teen Center. The Teen Center is a recreational room that is open five days per week for the children and teenagers. The Teen Center is equipped with a variety of games and an outdoor basketball court. Because they are homeless, the children and teenagers are experiencing stress and trauma. The Teen Center is a fun, positive, and supportive environment for these children and teenagers.

The Teen Center Staff will run the Teen Center in the afternoons and evenings, interact with the children and teenagers, and be a role model to them. The Teen Center Staff must be able to naturally work well with children and teenagers, be compassionate, be energetic, and quickly adapt to a fast-paced environment. The Teen Center Staff should have an extrovert, outgoing, and social personality. (The Teen Center Staff should not be introverted, shy, or anxious/nervous/unsure in social settings.) The position requires the ability to pass a criminal background check. The position is for Monday – Friday, 2:30pm-9:00pm, for a total of 32.5 hours per week, with the offer of benefits.

 

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Open and set up the Teen Center.
  • Engage, interact with, and play with the children and teenagers.
  • Monitor the children and teenagers’ behavior to ensure a healthy play environment for all.
  • Be creative – develop fun ideas/games to engage the youth.
  • Clean up/sanitize and close the Teen Center.

 

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Ability in dealing with children and teenagers and families.
  • Ability to work with multi-cultural individuals from very diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to be an independent leader in a group setting of many children and teenagers.
  • Ability to be very hard-working and to multi-task while being attentive to detail and maintaining organization.
  • Ability to be flexible, quickly adapt to change, and work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability in evaluating situations, staying calm in stressful situations, determining the needs of children, coping with a variety of behaviors, and teaching developmental/emotional/social skills.

The Job Trial Period provides the applicant a realistic preview to better understand the work environment, the work activities, and performance expectations. The Job Trial Period provides Sharing and Caring Hands verification of the applicant’s skill level and to see how well they fit in with our team dynamic. The candidate will be compensated for their time during the Job Trial Period.
